Izumikawa village is a resort village adjusting Rusutsu Resort at the bottom of Sorioi Mt. and Shiribetsu Dake Mt., 400 meters above sea level, covered in green in summer and hips of lightest snow in winter.
The community is small, but very close and friendly. Izumikawa includes several beautiful new western-style homes built by foreigners who have come to enjoy the mountain scenery and amazing ski conditions. The owners tell us again and again how much they enjoy their trips here, looking forward to them as a chance to rest and recharge after the stress of their busy lives back home, and how their Japanese neighbors have reached out to make them feel like welcome members of the community.
Izumikawa village includes Hotel Romulus, and several other small Japanese style lodges. A few of the lodges have dining rooms that are open for lunch. There are several small restaurants: Pirateman, Tomekichi, Rodeo Drive, Kazuchan and a German style bakery called Walde Wiese. Nearby there is also Villa Rusutsu (a hotel and an exceptionally fine Italian restaurant) and a number of restaurants inside the Resort as well. On the Tower Hotel side of the road, there are two convenience stores, Seiko-Mart and Seven Eleven. There are two gear rental shops, one next to Seiko-Mart, and another inside the Resort. There is a car rental desk inside the Resort that is open year round since April 2009. Just 2km down the road in Rusutsu village is the Route 230 road station, which includes a local farmers’ market where fresh produce is available at wonderful prices.
Our newest residents are still here mostly in winter, and we enjoy planning small annual social events like a Mochi Tsuki (a traditional Japanese New Year event) and a Toboggan Contest (in the 2nd half of January). We look forward to adding more events through the year. Any proposals concerning annual events are very welcome.
